Patient Values for Healthy Teeth

Generally, says Dr. Larry Kaplan, most people are concerned about one of four different values, or a combination of a few:

  1. Functional Value: You want to make sure that your natural teeth or the restorations your dentist provides you with are strong enough so that you can continue to eat all of the foods you enjoy and talk to your friends without worrying about anything coming loose.
  2. Comfort Value: Your concern is that regardless of what your dentist is able to do to restore your mouth you want everything to be comfortable. You don't want any pain from decay or discomfort from restorative teeth, such as implants, bridges or dentures.
  3. Cosmetic Value: You  are after that perfect Hollywood smile! Many times this includes a treatment plan that caters to realigning your teeth, fixing any chipped teeth, and whitening so that when you smile you have straight, gleaming teeth.
  4. Longevity Value: Your main concern is that your teeth last for a long time and that any restorative work that is done won't need to be replaced.
